Having
studied Geology at Oxford University in England Thomas Noone went
on to train as a dancer at the Rambert School, London. He then
worked for Djazzex, Itzik Galili and Reflex Dance in the Netherlands
followed by a period in Belgium with Frederic Flamand at Charleroi
Danses/Plan K. After moving to Barcelona he danced with Rami Levi,
Compañia Metros, (Ramon Oller), and Compañia Gelabert-Azzopardi.
Whilst
working as a dancer in Barcelona he created various pieces including
Still (Ricard Moragas prize, 1999) Credo (XIV Certamen de Madrid
1st prize) or Softly Spoken (performed in the repertory of Rami
Levi Dance Company), before forming his own group. With Thomas
Noone Dance he has created sixteen productions collaborating with
festivals and theatres such as the Grec Festival Barcelona or
the Mercat de les Flors and performed throughout Spain as well
across Europe and Latin America.
As an guest choreographer
he has created works for the integrated dance company StopGAP
and Verve (the performance group of the Northern School of Contemporary
dance) in the UK, Norrdans in Sweden, and at the end of 2011 he
will create a new work, Many, in collaboration with the composer
Philip Sheppard for the Ballet de L’Opera du Rhin to premiere
in January of 2012.
Besides his activities as
a choreographer and director Thomas Noone has been the Dance assessor
for the sat! Sant Andreu Theatre, Barcelona since 2005. In this
role he has organised 6 editions of the festival Dansat!, forged
an international collaboration with the Grec Festival and set
up an annual week of Integrated dance in the SAT! as well as supervising
the general dance program.
He has also been a guest
teacher at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, mentor on choreographic
coaching programs and jury for various competitions including
the Concurso Internacional de Ribarroja del Turia and Barcelona’s
City Councils choreographic competition for short pieces.
